So, here I am! A little late to the party, I know, but for a social-networking-shy introvert this feels fairly on-time to me. My name is Lillian, Lilly for short (As evidenced by the title of this blog “Lilly Writes Things”, which makes me roll my eyes a little, but hey, it’s honest, right? And I reserve the right to swap it for another if something clever ever occurs to me. Titles are my weakness.) and I…drum roll please…write things! I also read things and paint things and sell things (mostly books).
It’s taken me a long time to call myself a Writer. I don’t know why, as putting pen to paper or tapping out deliberate strings of letters on a keyboard equals writing, but that moniker, alongside Author, have always felt slightly unattainable to me. It might be because the gap between filling a blank page and holding a new crisp-spined book in my hands seems so vast. It’s also thanks to that ogre Self-Doubt and the voice in my head saying it isn’t real until, until, until… Until I wrote a book? Until I found an agent? Until I publish a book? But, I am a writer. It’s what I spend my time doing. It’s what I care about, and it’s how I want to spend my life. Because writing and reading are such fantastically inclusive and expansive endeavors. Stories bridge time and distance, age and gender and experience. They are the antidote to uncertainty and loneliness, even if reading only reminds you that others feel uncertain and alone.
Okay, enough waxing melodramatically for now. In short, I love books! A lot! And I hope that you (whoever you are) like them too! If you do, I hope you’ll find something to enjoy about what I end up writing here. If you don’t, well, that’s weird! (Kidding. Sort of.) Also, fair warning, I will likely write about things other than books as well, seeing how books are about Things and Opinions and Issues, many of which I tend to care about too.
